Store maps with their history
Keep acquisition records, catalogue references and condition photographs together. Use storage that supports the sheet and avoids dampness or direct sunlight. For large or fragile maps, consult a paper conservator about suitable housing.
Do not use adhesive tape to mend a tear or household cleaners to remove marks. Document changes in condition before handling the map again. A clear inventory helps you find the right item without repeatedly unfolding the entire collection.
